Mother
: Today is Sunday, but you're looking very sad. Any trouble, dear?
মা: আজ রবিবার, কিন্তু তোমাকে খুব মন খারাপ দেখাচ্ছে। কোন সমস্যা আছে, প্রিয়?
Ruby
: You're right. I'm very unhappy.
রুবি: তুমি ঠিক বলেছ। আমি খুব দুখী.
Mother
: What's the problem, child ?
মা: কি হয়েছে প্রিয়?
Ruby:
Last night I had a bad dream.
রুবি: আমি গত রাতে একটি দুঃস্বপ্ন দেখেছি।
I
am still feeling afraid. Mother: But why?
আমি এখনো ভয় পাচ্ছি। মা: কিন্তু কেন?
What
was the dream?

Ruby
: Well... I dreamt I was walking on the road and was feeling very thirsty.
রুবি: আচ্ছা... আমি স্বপ্নে দেখেছিলাম যে আমি রাস্তায় হাঁটছি এবং আমার খুব পিপাসা পেয়েছে।
But
there wasn't a single drop of water anywhere.

: Not a tap, tube well, well or pond nearby?

you know, we get water from all of these.

No mother, even the rivers and seas were without water.

How do we get that water ?
রুবিঃ আমরা এই পানি কিভাবে পেলাম?
Mother:
With the help of wells or tube wells.
মা: কূপ বা নলকূপের সাহায্যে।
Ruby
: Suppose, mother, if all the rivers, lakes, ponds and wells go dry what will
happen then?
রুবি: চলো মা, সব নদী, হ্রদ, পুকুর, কুয়া শুকিয়ে গেলে কী হবে?
Mother
: Then we won't survive. All animals and plants need water to live.
মা: তাহলে আমরা বাঁচব না। সমস্ত প্রাণী এবং গাছপালা বেঁচে থাকার জন্য জল প্রয়োজন।
We
drink water and wash, bathe and clean things with it.
আমরা পানি পান করি এবং তা দিয়ে জিনিসপত্র ধুয়ে, গোসল করি এবং পরিষ্কার করি।

: You are right-I take my bath, wash my hands, and clean my dolls with water.

Mother:
Hold on! Electricity is also generated from water.
মা: দাঁড়াও! পানি থেকেও বিদ্যুৎ উৎপন্ন হয়।
Water
even helps to put out fire.
জল আগুন শুরু করতেও সাহায্য করে।
So,
you see, water is very important in our lives.
সুতরাং, আপনি দেখুন, জল আমাদের জীবনে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Ruby:
If that is so, why did the teacher say that we pollute water in many ways?
রুবি: যদি তাই হয়, তাহলে শিক্ষক কেন বললেন যে আমরা পানিকে নানাভাবে দূষিত করি?
Mother:
Chemicals from factories, garbage and other waste products produced by man
pollute water.
মা: কারখানার রাসায়নিক, আবর্জনা এবং অন্যান্য মানবসৃষ্ট বর্জ্য পানিকে দূষিত করে।
Ruby:
So, water is wasted.
রুবি: আচ্ছা, জল নষ্ট হয়।
Mother:
Right. Pollution and wastage of water must be stopped.
মা: ঠিক আছে। দূষণ ও পানির অপচয় বন্ধ করতে হবে।
Ruby
: But if we cannot stop it ?
রুবি: কিন্তু আমরা যদি থামাতে না পারি?
Mother
: Then, a world without water !
মা: তাহলে পানি ছাড়া পৃথিবী!
Ruby:
That would really be terrible, mother!
রুবি: এটা খুব ভয়ের হবে, মা!
Mother
: Yes, if we cut down trees thoughtlessly, one day there will be no rain.
মা: হ্যাঁ, না ভেবে গাছ কাটলে একদিন বৃষ্টি হবে না।
The
world will become a land without water.
পৃথিবী জলবিহীন ভূমিতে পরিণত হবে।
So,
shall we pollute and waste water? Shall we cut down trees?
তাহলে কি আমরা পানি দূষিত ও অপচয় করি? আমরা কি গাছ কাটব?
Ruby
: No, mother. We shall keep the water clean and plant trees to welcome rain.
Mother, look! It's raining outside!
রুবিঃ না মা। আসুন জল পরিষ্কার রাখি এবং বৃষ্টি পেতে গাছ লাগাই। মা, দেখ! সেখানে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে!
