The Three Fishes
Once
upon a time, three fishes lived in a lake.
এক সময় একটি হ্রদে তিনটি মাছ থাকত।
They
were very close friends.
তারা খুব ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু ছিল.
All
three of them were very different from one another.
তিনটিই একে অপরের থেকে খুব আলাদা ছিল।
The
first one believed in fate.
প্রথম ভাগ্যে বিশ্বাসী।
He
thought what had to happen would happen.
তিনি ভেবেছিলেন যে যা হওয়ার তাই হবে।
The
second one was intelligent.
অন্যটি স্মার্ট ছিল।
He
thought he knew how to solve a problem with his intelligence.
তিনি ভেবেছিলেন যে তিনি তার বুদ্ধিমত্তা দিয়ে একটি সমস্যার সমাধান করতে জানেন।
The
third one was the wise one.
তৃতীয়জন ছিল বুদ্ধিমান।
He
thought long before taking any action.
কোনো পদক্ষেপ নেওয়ার আগে তিনি অনেক চিন্তাভাবনা করেছেন।
One
day, the Wise Fish was playing in water.
একদিন এক জ্ঞানী মাছ পানিতে খেলছিল।
He
overheard one fisherman talking to another.
তিনি শুনতে পেলেন এক জেলে আরেক জেলেকে কথা বলছে।
"Look
at that one! What a big fish ! This lake is full of big fishes.
"ওটা দেখো! কত বড় মাছ! এই লেক বড় মাছে ভরা।
Let
us come tomorrow and catch them."
চল কালকে এসে সেগুলো নিয়ে আসি।"

The
Wise Fish hurriedly swam to his friends to tell the news.
জ্ঞানী মাছটি দ্রুত সাঁতরে চলে গেল এবং তার বন্ধুদের কাছে খবরটি জানাল।
"Let's
leave this lake before those fishermen come back.
"এই জেলেরা ফিরে আসার আগে আসুন এই হ্রদ থেকে বেরিয়ে আসি।
A
canal i know can take us to another lake," the Wise Fish said.
আমি জানি যে একটি চ্যানেল আমাদের অন্য হ্রদে নিয়ে যেতে পারে, "বুদ্ধিমান
মাছ বলল।
The
Intelligent Fish said, “I know what to do if the fishermen come and catch
me."
"আমি জানি জেলেরা যখন আমাকে নিতে আসে তখন কি করতে হবে," বুদ্ধিমান
মাছ বলল।
The
Fish who believed in fate said, "Whatever is to happen will happen.
ভাগ্যে বিশ্বাসী মাছ বলল, যা হবে তাই হবে।
I
was born in this lake and I am not going to leave it."
আমি এই হ্রদে জন্মেছি এবং এটি ছেড়ে যাব না।"
The
Wise Fish did not want to risk his life.
জ্ঞানী মাছ তার জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিতে চায়নি।
So
he swam through the canal and went to the other lake.
তারপর সে খালে সাঁতার কেটে অন্য হ্রদে চলে গেল।
The
fishermen came back the next morning.
পরদিন সকালে জেলেরা ফিরে আসে।
They
cast their net.
সে জাল ফেলল।
The
two friends who stayed back were caught.
পেছনে বসা দুই বন্ধু ধরা পড়ে।
There
were many other fishes in the net.
জালে আরও মাছ ছিল।
The
Intelligent Fish thought of a way to escape.
চতুর মাছ পালানোর উপায় ভাবল।
He
acted as if he were

dead.
The fisherman threw him back into the lake.
মৃত. জেলে তা আবার হ্রদে ফেলে দিল।
But
the other fish, who believed in fate, was still jumping in the net.
কিন্তু ভাগ্যের ওপর বিশ্বাসী অন্য মাছগুলো তখনও জালে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে।
The
fisherman struck him dead.
জেলর তাকে হত্যা করে।

Hamid
studies in class III.
হামিদ তৃতীয় শ্রেণিতে পড়ে।
His
father is a fisherman.
তোমার বাবা একজন জেলে।
Sometimes
Hamid goes out with his father to catch fish.
মাঝে মাঝে হামিদ তার বাবার সাথে মাছ ধরতে যায়।
Hamid
loves to eat fish. Fishes live in water.
হামিদ মাছ খেতে ভালোবাসে। মাছ পানিতে বাস করে।
They
are aquatic animals.
এরা জলজ প্রাণী।
They
can breathe in water with their gills.
তারা তাদের ফুলকা দিয়ে পানি শ্বাস নিতে পারে।
But
when we take them out of water they die.
কিন্তু আমরা যখন তাদের পানি থেকে বের করি তখন তারা মারা যায়।
A
fish moves very easily in water.
মাছ পানিতে খুব সহজে চলাচল করে।
The
tail of a fish is hard.
মাছের লেজ শক্ত হয়।
The
fish changes its direction with its tail.
মাছ তার লেজ দিয়ে দিক পরিবর্তন করে।
There
are various types of fishes.
বিভিন্ন ধরনের মাছ আছে।
Some
live in fresh water while others live in saline water.
কেউ মিঠা পানিতে এবং কেউ নোনা পানিতে বাস করে।
Fishes
like hilsa and pomfret live in saline water.
ইলিশ ও পোমফ্রেটের মতো মাছ লোনা পানিতে বাস করে।
They
migrate to sweet water to lay eggs.
ডিম পাড়ার জন্য এরা মিঠা পানিতে চলে যায়।
Other
fishes like koi, katla live in ponds and lakes.
অন্যান্য মাছ যেমন শ্যাওলা, কাতলা পুকুর ও হ্রদে বাস করে।
Hamid
knows that many of his friends keep fish as pets.
হামিদ জানে তার অনেক বন্ধুর পোষা মাছ আছে।
Fishes
live on worms, but some fishes eat other small fishes.
মাছ পোকামাকড় খায়, কিন্তু কিছু মাছ অন্য ছোট মাছ খায়।
Fishes
are very helpful to us.
মাছ আমাদের জন্য খুবই উপকারী।
A
fish called guppy eats the larva of mosquitoes.
গাপ্পি নামের একটি মাছ মশার লার্ভা খায়।
Prawns
also live in water. Prawns are not fish.
চিংড়ি জলেও বাস করে। গলদা চিংড়ি মাছ নয়।
They
are insects. They can also swim very fast.
তারা পোকামাকড়। এরা খুব দ্রুত সাঁতার কাটতে পারে।
The
body of a prawn is covered with a soft shell.
চিংড়ির শরীর নরম খোসা দ্বারা আবৃত থাকে।
A
prawn has no backbone.
চিংড়ির মেরুদণ্ড নেই।
Hamid's
father told him that the prawn's body has three parts: the head, the thorax and
the abdomen.
হামিদের বাবা তাকে বলেছিলেন যে একটি চিংড়ির শরীরের তিনটি অংশ রয়েছে: মাথা, বক্ষ এবং পেট।
The
head has an antenna and two eyes.
মাথায় একটি অ্যান্টেনা এবং দুটি চোখ রয়েছে।
The
middle part is called the thorax.
কেন্দ্রীয় অংশকে বক্ষ বলা হয়।
Prawns
have jointed legs.
চিংড়ির পা রয়েছে।
The
lower part of the body is the abdomen.

One
day Hamid's father found a crab in the net.
একদিন হামিদের বাবা জালে একটি কাঁকড়া দেখতে পেলেন।
Hamid
saw that the crab has pincers.

It
can pinch with pincers.

father told him that there are no bones

a crab's jointed legs. Hamid saw that the jointed legs have hard outer covers.

When
the rains came Hamid heard the croaking of frogs.
বৃষ্টি নামলে হামিদ ব্যাঙের ডাক শুনতে পেল।
One
day a frog came into their house.
একদিন একটা ব্যাঙ তাদের ঘরে ঢুকল।
Hamid
caught the frog.
হামিদ ব্যাঙ ধরল।
The
frog was looking at him with its big red eyes.
ব্যাঙটি তার বড় বড় লাল চোখ নিয়ে তার দিকে তাকিয়ে ছিল।
Hamid
saw that the skin of the frog was rough and moist.
হামিদ লক্ষ্য করলেন ব্যাঙের চামড়া রুক্ষ ও ভেজা।
Its
hind legs are always

folded.
His father told him that the folded legs help the frog to jump.
নত হও তোমার বাবা তোমাকে বলেছিলেন যে তোমার পা বাঁকানো ব্যাঙকে লাফ দিতে সাহায্য করে।
The
front legs are small.
সামনের পা ছোট।
He
also saw that the frog has toes like him, but the toes are joined with skin.
তিনি আরও দেখেছেন যে ব্যাঙের পায়ের আঙ্গুলগুলি তাদের অনুরূপ, তবে পায়ের আঙ্গুলগুলি ত্বকের সাথে আঠালো।
Hamid's
father said that the webbed feet help it to swim.

It
lives in water and also on land. Hamid tried to give some food to the frog.

let the frog go.

decided not to throw stones at the frogs ever again.
সে সিদ্ধান্ত নিল আর কখনও ব্যাঙদের দিকে ঢিল ছুড়বে না।
