lives with her mother in Alipurduar.
ঝিনুক তার মায়ের সাথে আলিপুরদুয়ারে থাকে।
It
is a pretty city surrounded by distant hills.
দূর পাহাড়ে ঘেরা একটি সুন্দর শহর।
Jhinuk's
father works in Kolkata.
ঝিনুকের বাবা কলকাতায় চাকরি করেন।
On
some weekends, he comes to his home.
কোনো কোনো সপ্তাহান্তে সে তার বাড়িতে আসে।
During
these visits, he tells her stories about Kolkata.
এই পরিদর্শনের সময়, তিনি তাকে কলকাতা সম্পর্কে গল্প বলেন।
Some
of the stories amaze Jhinuk.
কিছু গল্প চমকে দেয় ঝিনুককে।
Her
father has told her of the Metro Rail in Kolkata.
তার বাবা তাকে কলকাতার মেট্রো রেলের কথা বলেছেন।
Jhinuk
has been astonished to hear of trains that run underground.
মাটির নিচে চলাচলকারী ট্রেনের কথা শুনে ঝিনুক অবাক হয়েছেন।
One
weekend, Jhinuk was expecting her father to arrive.
এক সপ্তাহান্তে ঝিনুক তার বাবা আসবে বলে আশা করছিল।
But
on Friday evening, her mother told her,
কিন্তু শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যায় তার মা তাকে বলেন,
"Your
father may not come tomorrow.
"তোমার বাবা কাল নাও আসতে পারে।
He
is busy with some urgent work."

Jhinuk
felt very sad. She was missing her father very much.
ঝিনুক খুব খারাপ লাগলো। সে তার বাবাকে খুব মিস করছিল।
She
had her dinner silently and went to sleep.
সে নীরবে রাতের খাবার সেরে ঘুমাতে গেল।
Then
she had a strange dream!
তারপর সে অদ্ভুত স্বপ্ন দেখল!

A
beautiful fairy visited her in her dream.
একটি সুন্দর পরী তার স্বপ্নে তাকে দেখতে এসেছিল।
"I
know you want to meet your father," the fairy said.
"আমি জানি তুমি তোমার বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চাও," পরী বলল।
Jhinuk
asked eagerly, "Will you take me to Kolkata, then?"
ঝিনুক অধীর আগ্রহে জিজ্ঞেস করল, "তাহলে আমাকে কলকাতায় নিয়ে যাবেন?"
The
fairy smiled. She waved her glittering magic wand.
পরী হাসল। সে তার চকচকে জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল।
And
it was magic! In a moment Jhinuk found herself in a busy road.
এবং এটা জাদু ছিল! মুহূর্তের মধ্যে ঝিনুক নিজেকে একটা ব্যস্ত রাস্তায় খুঁজে পেল।
Around
her she saw tall buildings, moving traffic and hurrying people.
তার চারপাশে তিনি লম্বা দালান, যান চলাচল এবং লোকজনকে তাড়াহুড়ো করতে দেখেছেন।
The
loud blaring of horns startled her.
শিঙের জোরে আওয়াজ তাকে চমকে দিল।

"So
this is Kolkata!" exclaimed Jhinuk.
"তাহলে এটাই কলকাতা!" চিৎকার
করে বলল ঝিনুক।
"I
have heard so much about Kolkata from my father."
"আমি আমার বাবার কাছ থেকে কলকাতা সম্পর্কে অনেক শুনেছি।"
The
beautiful fairy smiled, "You want to see more of this city?"
সুন্দরী পরী হাসল, "তুমি এই শহরটা আরও দেখতে চাও?"
"Yes",
Jhinuk was excited.
"হ্যাঁ", ঝিনুক উত্তেজিত হল।
The
fairy waved her magic wand again.
পরী আবার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল।
At
once, Jhinuk saw a river in front of her.
সাথে সাথে ঝিনুক তার সামনে একটা নদী দেখতে পেল।
Large
ships were anchored in the river.
নদীতে বড় বড় জাহাজ নোঙর করে।
A
lot of activities were going on.
অনেক কার্যক্রম চলছিল।
"This
is the Kolkata port", the fairy said.
‘এটা কলকাতা বন্দর’, পরী বলল।
"Kolkata
is so very busy!" said Jhinuk.
"কলকাতা খুব ব্যস্ত!" ঝিনুক বলল।
The
beautiful fairy smiled warmly.
সুন্দরী পরী উষ্ণ হাসি দিল।
"Let
me take you to the Eden Gardens now".
"আমাকে এখন ইডেন গার্ডেনে নিয়ে যাই"।
Jhinuk
saw before her a vast green field. Sourav Ganguly had played here, she
remembered.
ঝিনুক তার সামনে দেখতে পেল বিস্তীর্ণ সবুজ মাঠ। সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলী এখানে খেলেছিলেন, তার মনে আছে।
"This
is a place of hugely exciting cricket matches," said the fairy.
"এটি অত্যন্ত উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ ক্রিকেট ম্যাচের একটি জায়গা," পরী বলেন।

"Can
you show me the underground trains?" Jhinuk asked.
"আপনি আমাকে ভূগর্ভস্থ ট্রেন দেখাতে পারেন?" ঝিনুক জিজ্ঞেস করল।
"Why
not? Let us go right now", the fairy answered.
"কেন না? চল এখনই যাই", পরী উত্তর দিল।
They
entered the Esplanade Metro station.
তারা এসপ্ল্যানেড মেট্রো স্টেশনে প্রবেশ করল।
The
moving stairs took them underground.
চলন্ত সিঁড়ি তাদের মাটির নিচে নিয়ে গেছে।
The
train came into the station and they got up.
ট্রেন স্টেশনে এসে ওরা উঠে গেল।
Jhinuk
was thrilled.
ঝিনুক শিহরিত হল।
"Where
will you take me next?" she asked breathlessly.
"আমাকে কোথায় নিয়ে যাবে?" সে নিঃশ্বাসে জিজ্ঞেস করল।
"Where
do you want to go?" the fairy asked her, with a smile.
"আপনি কোথায় যেতে চান?" পরী তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল, হাসিমুখে।
Jhinuk
said, "I want to meet my father."
ঝিনুক বলল, আমি আমার বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চাই।
The
fairy waved her magic wand again.
পরী আবার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল।
Jhinuk
saw a road lined with bookshops on either side.
ঝিনুক দেখল রাস্তার দুপাশে বইয়ের দোকান।
"I
have never seen so many bookshops together!" Jhinuk exclaimed.
"আমি একসাথে এত বইয়ের দোকান দেখিনি!" ঝিনুক চিৎকার করে উঠল।
"This
is College Street", the fairy said."People come here to buy old and
new books.
"এটা কলেজ স্ট্রীট", পরী বলল, "লোকেরা
এখানে নতুন-পুরনো বই কিনতে আসে।
"Jhinuk
suddenly spotted her father in a bookshop.
"ঝিনুক হঠাৎ তার বাবাকে একটি বইয়ের দোকানে দেখতে পেল।
She
was delighted. She ran towards him.
তিনি আনন্দিত ছিল. সে তার দিকে ছুটে গেল।
"Wake
up Jhinuk, wake up", said a familiar voice.
‘ঝিনুক জাগো, জাগো’, পরিচিত কন্ঠস্বর বলল।
Jhinuk
wakes up from her dream.
ঝিনুক তার স্বপ্ন থেকে জেগে ওঠে।
It
is morning. Her father stands before her, smiling.
এখন সকাল. তার বাবা তার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে হাসছেন।
So
he could manage to come home, after all!
এত কিছুর পরেও সে বাড়িতে আসতে পেরেছে!
