The Kolkata Port

 

Port of Kolkata or Kolkata Port, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust (formerly Kolkata Port Trust).

The Kolkata Port is the only riverine major port of India, located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, around 203 kilometers (126 mi) from the sea.

It is the oldest operating port in India and was constructed by the British East India Company.

Kolkata is a freshwater port with no variation in salinity.

As of March 2018, the port is capable of processing annually 650,000 containers, mostly from Nepal, Bhutan, and India's northeastern states.

 

The Eden Garden

Eden Gardens is a cricket ground in Kolkata, India.

Established in 1864, it is the oldest and second-largest cricket stadium in India and third-largest in the world.

It has the fastest outfield of all the cricket stadiums in India.

Eden Gardens is called the "Mecca of Indian cricket", due to it being the first officially built ground for the game of cricket in India.

Eden Gardens saw a record of crowd of 95,000 in 1987 Cricket World Cup Final.

 

The College Street

 

The College Street is most famous for its small and big book stores.

College Street is a 900 meter long street in Central Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal.

It also known as Boi Para, it stretches from Bidhan Sarani road up to Bowbazar (before Nirmal Chandra Street) via MG Road crossing and Surya Sen Street crossing.

Its name derives from the presence of numerous colleges and universities like University of Calcutta, Calcutta Medical College, Presidency University, The Sanskrit College and University, City College of Commerce and Business Administration, Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration etc.

College Street is the largest book market in India as well as Asia and the largest secondhand book market in the whole world.

 

Activity 9 (b)

 Suppose you have met a fairy. She waves her magic wand and wants to grant you three wishes. Write five sentences on what you would wish for and why. Use the following hints.

 

Place where you met her,

Your wishes, 

You’re feeling of excitement,

I met with a fairy in my dream.

She came to me and told me that she can fulfill three of my wishes.

I wish get huge books, valuable stone and ornaments.

In the meantime my mother woke me up.

I felt very thrilling.
