Once
upon a time there lived a monkey on the bank of a river.
এক সময় নদীর তীরে এক বানর বাস করত।
Right
in the middle of the river there was a small island with many fruit trees.
নদীর ঠিক মাঝখানে অনেক ফলের গাছ সহ একটি ছোট দ্বীপ ছিল।
Sweet
and juicy fruits grew on the trees.
গাছে মিষ্টি ও রসালো ফল ধরে।
At
a distance from the bank, there was a huge rock in the river.
তীর থেকে অনেক দূরে নদীতে একটি বিশাল পাথর ছিল।
A
part of it was above water.
এর কিছু অংশ পানির ওপরে ছিল।
One
day, attracted by the delicious fruits, the monkey jumped to reach the rock and
from there leapt onto the island.
একদিন, সুস্বাদু ফলের দ্বারা আকৃষ্ট হয়ে, বানরটি পাহাড়ের উপর ঝাঁপ দিল এবং সেখান থেকে দ্বীপে ঝাঁপ দিল।

so difficult, after all," he said to himself.

Soon
he was enjoying the sweet fruits from the trees.
শীঘ্রই সে গাছের মিষ্টি ফল আস্বাদন করছিল।
There
was hardly any other animal there, so he was in no danger.
সেখানে অন্য কোন প্রাণী ছিল না, তাই তার কোন বিপদ ছিল না।
Hence,
the monkey decided to visit the island every day.
তাই বানরটি প্রতিদিন দ্বীপে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়।
On
the far bank of the river a big crocodile lived with his wife.
একটি বড় কুমির তার স্ত্রীর সাথে নদীর তীরে থাকত।
One
day, he noticed the monkey crossing the river in his unique way.
একদিন তিনি বানরটিকে তার নিজস্ব উপায়ে নদী পার হতে দেখেন।
He
told his wife, "Did you see him? Let's catch him tomorrow.
সে তার স্ত্রীকে বলল, তুমি কি তাকে দেখেছ? কাল তাকে নিয়ে এসো।
Next
morning, however, the crocodile found that catching the monkey was not easy.
পরদিন সকালে কুমিরটি দেখতে পেল যে বানরটিকে ধরা সহজ নয়।
The
monkey landed on the rock and in a flash jumped off onto the island.
বানরটি পাহাড়ের উপর অবতরণ করে এবং চোখের পলকে দ্বীপে ঝাঁপ দেয়।
Hiding
behind the rock, the crocodile could only watch him.
শুধু পাথরের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে থাকা কুমিরটিই আপনাকে দেখতে পাবে।
He
returned home without his catch.
তিনি না জানিয়ে বাড়িতে চলে আসেন।
Days
went by. The crocodile thought of many plans to catch the monkey, but nothing
worked.
দিন কেটে গেছে। কুমিরটি বানরটিকে ধরার জন্য বেশ কয়েকটি পরিকল্পনা করেছিল, কিন্তু কিছুই কার্যকর হয়নি।
The
monkey always escaped from his clutches.
বানর সবসময় তার খপ্পর থেকে পালিয়ে যায়।
One
day his wife said, "You've failed to catch the monkey, but I really want
to taste his sweet flesh.

So,

morning, as usual, the monkey jumped onto the rock and landed on the river
island.

Seeing
this, the crocodile swam to the rock.
এটা দেখে কুমিরটি সাঁতরে পাথরের দিকে চলে গেল।
He
lay still on the rock, keeping his head and tail well under water.

Only
his back was above water and it looked like a part of the rock.

having a good meal, the monkey decided to return.

monkey made up his mind very quickly.
বানর খুব দ্রুত মন তৈরি করল।
He
shouted, "Hello, Rock! My dear friend! You look quite big today.

And
you didn't welcome me today as you always do.

"If
you aren't angry, why are you looking so different?" said the monkey.

At
this, the crocodile got impatient.

He
raised his head above water and said, "I'm not a rock, you stupid! I'm a
crocodile.

monkey realized that he could not return home like all other days.

he made another plan.

said, "My friend, crocodile, I am so sorry.

crocodile and said, "You foolish crocodile!
