Expected learning outcome:

• Learners will be able to identify and use countable and uncountable nouns contextually.

 

Look at the following sentences:

1. I saw a bird on the tree.

2. She likes coffee.

 

In Sentence 1, the underlined words (bird and tree) can be counted.

A naming word (Noun) which can be counted is called a countable noun.

Sentence 1- bird tree কে আমরা সংখ্যায় গুণতে পারি। এই ধরনের noun কে countable noun বলা হয়

In Sentence 2 the word in bold letters (coffee) cannot be counted.

A naming word (noun) which cannot be counted is called an uncountable noun.

Sentence 2, তে coffee কে আমরা সংখ্যায় গুণতে পারি না। এই ধরনের noun কে uncountable noun বলা হয়

Uncountable nouns denote substances and abstract things.

Uncountable nouns are used with singular verbs. They usually do not have a plural form.
