Learners will be able to identify and use countable and uncountable nouns contextually.

 

Check back :

 

Look at the following words:

tree,     write,   and,     you,     The Himalaya,

dance, book,   me,      but,      mango

 

the above box we find some naming words (tree, The Himalaya, book, mango).

But the rest are not naming words. (write, and, you, me, but).

Dok at the sentences carefully :

1. Kolkata is a big city.

2. His brother is Subir.

 

Sentence 1, the word in bold letters (city) does not refer to any particular place.

City word টির দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট জায়গাকে বোঝানো হচ্ছে না

 

Sentence 2, the word in bold letters (brother) refers to a relation in general.

(Brother) word টি দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট জায়গাকে বোঝানো হচ্ছে না

 

A word which refers to a person, place or thing in common is called a common noun.

যে word দ্বারা সাধারণ ভাবে কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, জায়গা বা সম্পর্কের নাম বোঝায় তাকে common noun বলে

 

In sentence 1, the underlined word (Kolkata) refers to the name of a particular city.

উপরের Sentence 1- Kolkata word টি দিয়ে একটি নির্দিষ্ট শহরকে বোঝানো হয়েছে

 

In the Sentence 2, the underlined word (Subir) refers to the special name of a particular person.

Sentence 2 (Subir) word টির দ্বারা একজন মানুষের বিশেষ নাম বোঝানো হয়েছে

The word that refers to the name of a particular person, place or thing is called proper noun.

A proper noun begins with a capital letter.

 

যে word এর দ্বারা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা জায়গায় নাম বোঝানো হয় তাকে proper noun বলে

Proper noun সর্বদা capital letter দিয়ে শুরু হয়
