Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, the noble son of Medinipur and the best man in the
world, is an extraordinary and unique character.

He was born in 1820 in Birsingh village of Medinipur district.

Father Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay and mother Bhagwati Devi. Grandfather Ramjay
Tarkabhushan and Grandmother Durga Devi.

He was a child of a very poor family. After finishing his schooling in the
village, he came to Calcutta with his father and enrolled in Sanskrit College

Gained the title of ‘Vidyasagar’ for acquiring special origin in Vidya.

At first he joined Fort William College. Later he worked in Sanskrit College as
Assistant Secretary and later as Principal.

As an educator, he established many schools and girls' schools.

The greatest work of life is to introduce widow marriage and stop polygamy.

Varnaparichay, Betal Panchabingsati, Sita's Banabas, Shakuntala and
Bhrantibilas are his immortal creations.

In 1861 his career came to an end.
